About this place
At Syomon, the choice is between a chicken tonkotsu broth with seafood and bonito, and a chicken-stock broth seasoned with aged soy sauce. One diner said they kept coming back for the seafood tonkotsu, while another remembered the soy sauce ramen for its crisp, clear flavour. Deciding which broth to try is part of the appeal.
The chicken tonkotsu soy sauce ramen combines chicken tonkotsu, aged soy sauce and garlic, and is also available with extra chashu. One diner found that the slightly thick broth worked well with thin, straight noodles and slices of chashu, making for an easy-to-enjoy bowl.
Set meals pair the noodles with gyoza, fried rice or fried chicken. The soy sauce ramen comes with a choice of these combinations, as do the chicken tonkotsu varieties, so you can choose according to what you fancy. Diners have praised the fried rice for its fluffy texture and separate, lightly fried grains; it is also a tempting accompaniment to ramen.
One diner also reported enjoying oden in winter, and beer is available in the evening. Syomon suits everything from a ramen set at lunchtime to noodles with a drink after work. It opens for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday, and for lunch on Sundays, and is also suitable for dining solo.
